Acid and Alkaline Foods
from "Rust Out" by Dr. Bailey page 192
There are varying degrees of acidity in our foods; the more natural the better, the more processed the worst. I have found multiple lists, not all the same, containing acid and alkaline foods. This outline is a mix of many lists and may not match up exactly to your list.
Acid Forming Foods
All meats (beef, pork, chicken) and fish
Cheese (with Parmesan the worst), along with sharper/dry cheeses
Colas (phosphorus in colas turns to phosphoric acid and destroys bone)
Alcohol
Caffeinated drinks, coffee
Sweetened yogurt
Artificial sweeteners, processed cane and beet sugar, barley syrup, heat processed honey (cold extracted is alkaline), maple sugar, molasses, fructose, lactose, refined table sugar
Anything fried or barbecued
Soy sauce
Mustard (dried and processed)
Ketchup (unless natural and homemade without vinegar)
Apple cider, sweet brown rice vinegar, white vinegar
Nutmeg
Tobacco
Practically all prescription drugs
Mildly Acid Forming Or Neutral
Sunflower and pumpkin seeds
Wheat germ
Nuts, including walnuts, pecans, cashews, dried coconut (fresh is alkaline), pistachios, macadamias, filberts, peanuts
Rice (white, brown and basmati)
Cornmeal, oats, rye, spelt, wheat, bran
Popcorn
Pastas
Breads and most other grain products like cereals (hot or cold), crackers, pastries
The following beans (unless sprouted which makes them alkaline): pinto, navy, mung, lentils, black, garbanzo, red, white, adzuki, broad
Alkalizing Foods
Practically all vegetables
Practically all fruits, except blueberries, plums, prunes, cranberries. Even citrus such as lemons, which many think of as being acidic, are alkaline producing in the body. They are rich in organic salts, like citrates, which are converted into bicarbonates.
Beans, like string, soy, lima, green, snap
Peas
Potatoes (not fried)
Arrowroot flour
Grains, like flax, millet, quinoa, amaranth
Nuts, like almonds, pignoli (pine nut), chestnuts, Brazil nuts
Sprouted anything, including alfalfa, radish, chia
Unsprouted, untoasted seeds, like sesame
Fresh unsalted butter
Milk and cream
Goat’s milk
Eggs
Whey
Plain yogurt
Sweeteners, like raw, unpasteurized honey, dried sugar cane juice (sucanat), brown rice syrup
Fruit juices
All vegetable juices
Most herbal teas
Garlic
Cayenne pepper
Almost all herbs
Miso
Most vegetable and unprocessed sea salt
Almost all spices
Vanilla extract
Brewer’s or nutritional yeast
Most unprocessed, cold-pressed oils are neutral or alkaline forming (even margarine, but I would avoid this "liquid plastic")
