Hot Dogs
from "Rust Out" by Dr Bailey page 76
Frankfurters, wieners, bologna and hots dog’s spicy taste come from the seasonings that are used to mask the byproducts used to make them. It doesn’t matter if they are made of pork, beef, turkey or chicken, they are full of saturated fat, sodium (salt) and cholesterol, which promotes vascular disease and high blood pressure.
Nitrites
They also contain the food additive nitrite (used for curing meats and in processed meats to protect against botulism). 700 tons of nitrites are added to the 4 million tons of cured meats made in the United States each year. Nitrites are found in high levels in bacon, beer, ham, sausage, smoked fish, luncheon meats and beef jerky. Nitrites can be converted to nitrosamines, which have been linked to cancer in humans.
Mad Cow Disease And Listeria
Beef franks may even contain spinal cord and brain tissue that may harbor prions, substances connected to mad cow disease. Most hot dogs are precooked, but they can still be contaminated with deadly Listeria bacteria. Semi-solid meat products including raw skeletal muscle, heart, kidney, liver and other by-products are used to fill the animals emptied intestine to make up the desired sausage-like product.
Veggie Dogs
Eat vegetarian substitutes while you are changing your eating habits to a more natural diet. Remember veggie dogs also have artificial colors, flavors and preservatives, just like meat hot dogs and these can be harmful in large quantities. Veggie dogs have less sodium (but not by much) and less fat. They contain no cholesterol or nitrites and just as much or more protein.
What To Do
Cut out the spicy meats and hot dogs.
